WRITER / DIRECTOR

JOSHUA AMAR

Hey! I’m Josh, and I’m your next favorite director. Presumptuous? Probably. But look, I make movies a bit differently. I’m passionate about making diverse genre films that focus on themes of toxic masculinity, male fragility, and redefining morality. My films typically feel like thrillers but are about immensely personal and small stories (think of me as a third Safdie Brother who is very much in love with the heart and magical realism of an Iñárritu film).

I’m a first-generation Moroccan-Canadian currently living in Los Angeles. I graduated from the AFI Conservatory Directing Fellowship. I’ve worked on projects with Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Avril Lavigne, JessB, and the NBA. My films screened at Raindance, Outfest, Rhode Island, Cannes, Bermuda, Austin, Savannah, and dozens of other festivals.

I’m currently developing my first feature films, “JUST DIE ALREADY” and “DON’T EVER LEAVE ME,” stepping into pre-production in 2023! Drop me an email, I don’t bite.
